Lecture on Economic Teachings of Prophet Muhammad

Dr Ausaf Ahmad, a renowned economist, delivered a lecture on Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) economic teachings at Institute of Objective Studies’ (IOS) headquarters in New Delhi on June 11. Quoting Prophet’s sayings and events from his life, Dr Ahmad concluded that brotherhood and justice formed the bedrock of his economic policy.

 

This lecture marked the beginning of a lecture on Islamic economics, which would be regularly held at the IOS.

 

Dr Ausaf said Prophet’s life teaches us that we must never lose hope and be overwhelmed by a sense of agony in the face of financial constraint. We should have patience and consistency. “Prophet’s life shows us that we should prepare a well-thought-out programme before embarking on a journey to earn livelihood.”

 

In his presidential remarks, IOS Chairman Dr Mohammad Manzoor Alam said India was nearing to be a great economic power. Muslims should also try their best to contribute to the growth of Indian economy.

 

The gathering was comprised of Muslim intellectuals, social activists and journalists participated in the meeting. There was a lively discussion after the lecture. Mr. Ehsanul Haque conducted the programme.
