Prof. Haseena Hashia
Prof. Haseena Hashia is a former Professor in the Department of Geography, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. She has obtained her early education in Srinagar, Kashmir. She has got B.Sc, B. Ed from the University of Kashmir (Jammu and Kashmir), M. Sc. (Geography) from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh (UP), M. Phil from Kashmir University and Ph.D. from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. Her specialization is Gender Geography, Environment, Disaster Management and Muslim situation in India.
Apart from teaching and research, Prof. Hashia is actively engaged in diversified social activities, the focus being on women’s empowerment and development, eradication of illiteracy, ignorance and exploitation among under privileged sections of society. She is activity associated with the like minded NGO’s, organizations and civil society groups. She is fighting for women’s rights, their status and prestige in various communities and sections of society. Being an active member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board,. Institute of Objective Studies, New Delhi, All India Muslim Women’s Organization New Delhi etc., she is educating women especially, Muslim women for their rights according to religion and Constitution of India. She is working for mass awareness among people, about female foeticide, infant mortality, health, awareness of women about matrimonial rights and also about the proses and cones of the Domestic Violence Act. For this purpose she works with different age groups, doing sensitization programs and counseling.
Prof. Hashia has traveled widely to fulfill her aim. She has attended women’s leadership programs in various parts of United States of America. She has delivered lectures in Iraq, Jordan, Malaysia, Indonesia and Iran. She has attended various women’s development programs and recently attended a conference and presented a paper in the University of Bern, Switzerland.
