Scholarship Programme

The Institute conducts a scheme of award of scholarship for talent promotion and advancement of knowledge. Provision of  award of scholarships for higher studies normally inculcates human values and interest, commitment and motivation for academic pursuits specially in younger scholars. These are taken as kind of recognition of talent for research.

Objectives

The objectives of the Scholarship Programme of  IOS are enumerated below:

To promote learning and enrichment of knowledge by providing opportunities for talented and promising students to carry on their academic pursuits.

To motivate talented students and provide them an opportunity to pursue their studies with undivided attention.

To prepare young scholars for their definite role in achieving the objectives of the IOS.

Operational Scheme

The IOS scholarship scheme provides for financial assistance to students and fellows in the form of monthly scholarships, study grants, travel grants, thesis preparations, expenditure, etc.

The entire programme is spread into four categories of scholarships as discussed below:

(a) Scholarship in Social Sciences and Humanities (SSS)

Under this category students and fellows undertaking studies in various disciplines of social sciences and humanities are selected at M.A., M.Phil and specially at the Ph.D. level. For researchers, the Institute has prepared a compendium of research themes providing a clear perspective and focus for conducting their research. The selected themes are arranged according to the disciplines.

(b) Scholarship for Language Promotion (SLP)

The purpose of  this  scholarship category is to develop talents in the field of inter-language communication so that beneficiaries may be able to interpret, translate or communicate from one language into another. In this category, students enrolled in diploma and degree courses can avail scholarship. Presently , Arabic, Urdu, Persian, Sanskrit, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Malay, Russian and Japanese enjoy preferential status in the scheme.

(c) Scholarship for Madrasa Students Opting Social Sciences and Humanities (SMS)

This category of scholarship is meant for students and fellows hailing from madrasas to undertake identified courses in humanities and social sciences. Such recipients are expected to become well-verse with modern subjects, so that they may be able to come out with solutions, in the light of the Qur'an and the Sunnah, to various socio-economic problems of the contemporary world. Students in degree  courses and beyond are selected under this category.

In addition to the above mentioned category, scholarship award has been extended to two new areas, "Peace Studies" and "Fiqh Studies". The scholarship for Peace Studies is given to the persons undergoing specially designed courses for promoting human values. The award for Fiqh Studies is intended to build up a team of Scholars who may able to provide solutions to the contemporary problems arising out of  the technology development and the changing socio-economic conditions.
